Ins and outs: potential transfers for Liverpool in the summer

Liverpool Transfer Rumours

Although the Premier League title is out of reach, this has been a great season for Liverpool, and with a Champions League quarter-final still to look forward to, Jürgen Klopp’s dynamic team could yet deliver us more highs. Beyond this season, however, there is work to be done in strengthening the squad and preparing for an even more successful campaign in 2018/19.

The first team is already packed with stars, such as Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, and their deadly attacking team-play is one of the reasons why Liverpool will continue to be easy to back in the Stakers football betting markets.

In fact, hanging on to their trio of striking stars will be a vital part of Liverpool’s summer strategy. Having already lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, Klopp will be desperate to hang on to his star forwards, particularly Mo Salah. The Egyptian international, who is on course to win the Premier League Golden Boot this season, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but with Champions League football next season pretty much secured, the Reds should be able to persuade him to stay to be part of a rising force in European football.

While they will be pulling out all the stops to keep Salah, this summer could see a number of players leave the squad, most notably Emre Can. The club have been unable to persuade Can to put his name to a new contract, and the German international is likely to be on his way this summer, with Juventus the favourite destination. It would be no surprise either to see Daniel Sturridge move on. The striker has spent the season on loan with West Bromwich Albion but ought to be able to command a first-team place at a better club.

Liverpool fans will be most keen to learn which players will be arriving this summer. One name who will definitely be in the Reds squad next season is Naby Keïta. One of the most exciting midfielders in world football, Keïta signed a deal last year to move to Anfield in July, and his all-action style and prodigious talent is sure to make him a fan favourite.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Liverpool also added to their goalkeeping options. Neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius have shown the kind of ability and consistency that can help Liverpool reach the next level, and with Jordan Pickford at Everton, the other young English goalkeeping option to consider is Jack Butland. They may have to fight off a number of suitors for his signature, but he would be a great addition to the Liverpool ranks.

Other options include young Dortmund left-back Raphaël Guerreiro, who has an impressive all-round game; German international striker Timo Werner, who could add even more firepower to that impressive front line; and tricky Napoli midfielder Jorginho. These are certainly exciting times at Anfield, and Liverpool fans will be following all the signing rumours closely as another roller-coaster transfer period draws closer.
