‘Rampant’ Liverpool with One Foot in the Quarters
Liverpool were in rampant fashion on their first appearance in the Champions League knockout rounds since 2009, demolishing FC Porto 5-0 in the Estadio Dragao.
A first club hat-trick from Sadio Mane alongside goals from his front line partners Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino have all put booker Liverpool’s place in the quarter-finals.
Mane ‘Back’
Sadio Mane has had a less than effective last few weeks by his own standards but was right back bang in form for Liverpool with a hat-trick last night.
Manager Jurgen Klopp was waxing lyrical in his post-match press conference about the Senegalese star:
“I said to him after the last game ‘finally you’re back’ immediately after when we talked on the pitch.
“Tonight he showed it again what a fantastic player he is. He was always important, he was always fantastic for us, even in his not-that-good moments.”
Salah Quick to 30
Egyptian forward Mohammed Salah became only the 13th different player in LFC history to hit 30 goals in a season- in February.
Salah’s strike in the 5-0 rout of Porto saw him hit the milestone in all competitions.
It has taken the summer signing from Roma just 36 games to reach the landmark, the second fastest player to reach it behind George Allan who got there in 27 games in 1896.
