Thoughts on the West Ham victory and looking forward to Newcastle’s visit to Anfield

The Kop Table Interview

Peter talks to Mike Davies about all things LFC related…

What were your thoughts on the performance against West Ham Mike?

Well, where to start on Saturday’s game, firstly it was a good all-round performance by the team, very unlucky not to score within the first five minutes. But then again a great save by Karius to tip it onto the bar from the Hammers’ forward, if that had been DeGea the papers would be banging on about it. Karius for me is really starting to show he is a very good keeper, the whole back four played very well, Robertson again standing out, this boy is getting better by the game, what a steal he was, VVD is becoming the norm already what to expect from him.

Were you surprised to see Joel Matip reinstated to the back 4 on Saturday?

I was a little surprised to see Matip in the starting line up but think Klopp sees him as a more playing CB than Lovren and at home that’s what he seems to want, whereas when away he wants a tougher tackling CB as in theory we should be on the cosh more.

A lot of players played very well but who was the standout player in this fixture for you?

Just a quick mention on the Ox, every time Klopp asks him to perform he has not done a good first half but a truly outstanding second half.

What are your thoughts on Firmino’s no-look finishes?

Firmino has made the no-look his own, as long as it doesn’t backfire on him it’s fine but sometimes I fear it might do and then you can imagine people’s thoughts, especially from the media.

Would you give James Milner a new contract when this one is up?

On James Milner, I think I would probably offer him a pay as you play contract if they still exist but he is more than likely to want a two-year deal so maybe meet half way and offer a one year with the option.

Can you see Klopp making many changes for the Newcastle game?

With Benitez Newcastle coming this weekend maybe the odd change with maybe Henderson or Wijnaldum coming back as Newcastle are very strong in the midfield, but apart from that, I wouldn’t see many changes myself.

What is your score prediction v Newcastle and why please?

This will be a tough game as we all know Rafa is a great tactician and will set his stall up accordingly, it will be down to us to break them down as Rafa will try and pinch one on the break. I’m predicting a close 2-1 or 3-1 win.

Cheers to all at FOL for the Interview, Mike.

Why Steven Gerrard should have prolonged his career and helped Jurgen Klopp achieve Liverpool’s ambitions

I’ve always wanted to write about the idea that Steven Gerrard quit too soon. This article will explore the argument that had the former Liverpool captain carried on just a few seasons longer, he could have ended on a high note and helped Klopp’s side get over the line for some vital silverware. Gerrard quit […]

Harry Wilson – Hull City Harry Wilson scored his fifth goal in Hull colours when he opened the scoring for their 5-0 thrashing of Burton Albion. The Welshman picked up the ball on the right-hand side of the box, before accurately placing it in the far corner of the net. From that point on Hull […]
