Liverpool Rumours Round-Up: Gray, Coutinho & Van Dijk

According to reports, Liverpool could revive interest in Leicester winger Demarai Gray. The winger is nervous about his first-team prospects at Leicester City and that has alerted a host of clubs to his potential availability.

Gray only managed to make nine league starts for the Foxes last season, appearing from the bench a further 21 times. The 21-year-old believes he warrants more game time for Craig Shakespeare’s side after he starred for England at the Euro U21 tournament this summer.

Reports suggest that Gray doesn’t have a buy-out clause in his deal but Leicester don’t want to sell the talented forward after signing him for £3.5m from Birmingham City in 2016.

Interest in Philippe Coutinho continues to rise as he makes front page news in France. Paris Saint-Germain could be in for Coutinho after first choice target, AS Monaco hotshot Kylian Mbappe appears unlikely to join them this summer, with a move to Real Madrid more likely in a world record transfer.

According to the report, Coutinho is PSG’s ‘plan B’ as the capital side ponder offering the big bucks for Liverpool’s Brazilian. Liverpool are in a strong position with Coutinho, having tied the 25-year-old down to a new contract which will keep him at Anfield until 2022.

However, there are two conditions for Liverpool should they consider selling their star player as the Reds want €90m for the Brazilian and also enough time to sign a replacement.

The Mirror is also reporting that Van Dijk has told Southampton he ONLY wants to join Liverpool, leaving the Saints in danger of missing out on a bumper £50 million pay day. The report also suggests new Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino would want to keep hold of the Dutchman but is reluctant to keep an unhappy player at the club.

Liverpool backed off with an apology after the tapping incident but Jurgen Klopp is desperate to add the commanding centre-half to his squad and hasn’t given up hope of doing a deal before the window closes.

Southampton don’t want to lose Van Dijk but the Dutchman has made it clear he wants to play Champions League football as he did at Celtic before his move to St Mary’s.

On other news, Arsenal will block Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from joining Liverpool this summer. The England international is entering the final year of his contract at Arsenal and it appears that the Gunners are acceptant that he could leave next summer, but they want him to see out the final year of his deal.
