Klopp waits on late fitness tests for Hendo and Clyne as Liverpool prepare for Swansea test

Nathaniel Clyne and Jordan Henderson face a race against time to be declared fit to be available for selection for Liverpool’s Premier League encounter against Swansea City at Anfield tomorrow.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed both players are very close to being over their injury woes and lining up against Paul Clement’s struggling outfit.

The Reds will look to reinforce their position of second in the top flight, with Chelsea leading the league and Tottenham Hotspur and then Arsenal making up the top four.

Clyne has been sidelined the last two games after picking up a torso injury during the first leg of the 1-0 EFL Cup semi-final defeat at his former club Southampton.

Henderson was fit enough to feature in the 1-1 draw at Manchester United last Sunday but he has suffered a setback on the injury to his heel and missed the FA Cup third round replay win at Plymouth Argyle midweek.

Klopp, speaking at the Liverpool press conference ahead of the Premier League showdown, said:

“All in a good way. Clyney and Hendo were not in team training until now, but should be back. That’s the last moment.”

“Clyney could make two running sessions, only to feel if he can cope with the pain. I saw him yesterday and the thumb was very up and so that’s good. Hendo should be okay, as well. He felt the muscle a little bit more than he’s used to. It’s still about the heel. That’s more the problem still.”

Waiting in the wings should Clyne not be available is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has deputised in his absence. The teen defender says he is ready for the challenge should it arise.

He said:

“I think everyone’s focused on getting the three points, but we know it’s not going to be easy. They’re going to come and try to play football and that’s what we’ve got to try to be ready for.”
