Jordan Henderson has tried to lift the sombre mood at Anfield today following the Reds’ capitulation in the 4-3 defeat in the Premier League at AFC Bournemouth.
Jurgen Klopp’s side looked in total control and led 2-0 and 3-1 respectively but the plucky home side fought back and snatched an unlikely victory to break Kop fans’ hearts.
The defeat left Liverpool in third spot in the Premier League table, a point behind Arsenal and four adrift of leaders Chelsea who beat Manchester City at the weekend.
The Anfield giants went 2-0 up early in the first half thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Divock Origi. The hosts pulled one back from a Callum Wilson penalty before Emre Can looked to have sealed the deal at 3-1.
But Bournemouth bounced back through Ryan Fraser and Steve Cook before Nathan Ake, on loan from Chelsea, snatched an injury time winner.
And Henderson believes the only way to ignite engines and fire up the passion once more is to get some hard work under the players’ belts ahead of the next fixture, which is a top flight encounter against West ham United at Anfield on Sunday.
Reds captain Henderson said:
“The one thing you’ve got to do is try and learn from it as best you can and use it for the next game.”
“Obviously we’ll be disappointed for the next couple of days but we’ll get back on the training pitch, get back working hard, and focus on the next game.”
“We’ve been brilliant so far this season but we weren’t at our best and we were punished.”
“You’ve got to give credit to Bournemouth, they kept going right until the end but we’ve got to learn from it quickly, move on and make sure we’re right at it in the next game.”
