Klopp beaming as Liverpool go top of the league with a trouncing of Watford

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool had plenty of six appeal as their sexy football took them to the top of the Premier League with a trouncing of Watford at Anfield.

Sadio Mane’s brace inspired a 6-1 walloping of the Hornets to put Liverpool at the summit of the top flight.

Jurgen Klopp’s men played some sumptuous football to earn they victory and critics agree the Reds have emerged as genuine title contenders as they moved one point clear of second-placed Chelsea thanks to a marauding goal spree in front of 53,000 fans.

The Kop giants took the lead in the 27th minute when Senegal ace Mane met Philippe Coutinho’s corner with a header that looped past Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes.

And then just three minutes later, Roberto Firmino picked out Coutinho on the edge of the box and the Liverpool forward fired home with a fine low strike.

Klopp’s team were three up two minutes before half-time as Emre Can arrived unmarked at the far post to head in Adam Lallana’s cross.

There was no stopping there. Firmino added the fourth in the 57th minute, the Brazilian finishing off Lallana’s cross, before Mane got his second in the 60th minute with a clinical close-range effort from Firmino’s pass.

But amidst the title talk, Klopp says he won’t do anything but focus on making his side even better for the rest of the season.

He said: “I have no idea, we will see. If somebody thinks being one point ahead after 11 match days is a big sign for the rest of the season, I can’t help this person, sorry. We stay cool, it’s the best position I can imagine, nothing else happened”.

“We didn’t speak one word about the possibility of being top of the table. The only thing you can do is work and stay concentrated, because a lot of different things could happen in the next few weeks and months. No matter how positive they are is up to us, actually”.
