Jurgen Klopp has played a masterstroke by handing Emre Can a more advanced role this season and the decision has paid off handsomely with his contributions helping the Anfield giant to the top of the table.
And the Reds midfielder looks to continue to maintain his form in his 100th appearance for the club at Southampton in the Premier League tomorrow.
Germany ace Can plays ahead of skipper Jordan Henderson and is offered the opportunity to attack more often and he has hit two goals of late as a result. He scored against Crystal Palace then again in the 6-1 trouncing of Watford, and the hunt for goals continues at St Mary’s.
And Can said: “I’ve played a little bit differently to last season. I’ve been playing offensively so I think I make the runs into the box more”.
“Last year I played more in the role of holding position and this year I’ve been playing more in the half-spaces. Playing in the half-spaces means I can go forward more”.
“The goal I scored against Watford, the header, well two days before the game we’d worked on that move in the training session so it was nice to actually score it”.
“If I think back to when I first came to Melwood and then played my first game, it’s great to play my 100th game for such a big club. It’s a big honour for me”.
