Kop king Kane? Liverpool eye move for Spurs striker

Latest News

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp can’t be blamed for looking ahead to next season given that this term his desire to claim the Reds’ first Premier League title in 30 years has been effectively moth-balled.

The Anfield giants sit top of the pile and are currently 25 points ahead of Manchester City in second place, with the Kop side odds-on favourites to lift the crown. Well, that was the case until the coronavirus outbreak meant that football in England, and across the world, was put on ice. It isn’t yet known when, or even if, the season will resume and you have to say that the longer the suspension continues the more you would think that the season will be called null and void.

That would take Klopp and his squad’s thoughts to next season and one of the concerns they will have is the fact the hotshot Mo Salah could be missing from the side for four months given that he is set to be called up for his native Egypt in both the African Cup of Nations as well as the Olympics, which have been put back a year in light of the Covid-19 crisis.

But, who is that on the horizon, seemingly heading to Anfield to replace the firepower that will be missed with Salah’s absence? Well, if you listen to the mainstream media, it’s England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, who is aged 26. The story doing the rounds is that Spurs marksman Kane is ready to quit the north London side after failing to win any honours during his time with the club – a fact unlikely to change.

And former Chelsea and Celtic striker Chris Sutton says Kane would be silly not to leave Tottenham — where he is under contract until 2024 — if the Merseyside giants, or Manchester City, came in for him. How likely is it that Kane leaves Tottenham? The phrase doing the rounds is: “Sooner rather than later.”

Speaking to the BBC, Sutton said he thinks it would be a great move for the Three Lions hitman. He said:

“I can really understand the predicament he is in. But if he wants to win the Premier League, then he should move on and go to a club who have better chance of winning it than Spurs do.

“We all understand he wants to win something. So, if he wants to win something, I wouldn’t begrudge him a move. Spurs are a brilliant club, but at this moment in time they are way behind the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. If one of those clubs came in for him, if you were Harry Kane you would be stupid not to go.”
