I may be a tiny bit biased, but Andy Robertson is the best left back in the English Premier League.
The man arrived from Hull in the summer transfer window and has blossomed into a mighty fine left-sided defender.
He may not be worth £52million like and the injured Benjamin Mendy, or he may not score as many goals as Chelsea’s wingback Marcus Alonso but the Scotsman who was signed by Jurgen Klopp is just so likeable.
The passion he showed when Mo Salah smashed home the late winner was just unbelievable and what every single Liverpool fan wants to see.
Let’s not forget about his assist for the goal as well. Trent-Alexander Arnold’s ball was slightly behind his opposite full-back so Robertson was clever. Instead of just lashing it towards Hennessey’s goal, he had the awareness to pick out his clinical teammate and of course the Egyptian king won the game for the Reds.
Former Liverpool player, and now Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp gave high praise to Saturdays man of the match. He spoke about how brilliant the Scotland international has been since his £8million move to Anfield.
“I must say, Andrew Robertson the left-back, what a signing he has been,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.
“That’s such a good cross across the goal because he knows he’s probably not going to score as that’s coming across, but he knows if he plays it in the right area.
“Liverpool have been trying to find a left-back for a few years.
“They played James Milner there last year, didn’t really work out in the manner that you’d want.
“They’ve signed a young player from Hull and he has been brilliant.”
He was Liverpool’s main threat for the whole game, he looked to create, get forward but also remembered his defensive duties as well.
Despite the obvious errors, I thought Sadio Mane actually had a decent game, especially in the second half. Yes, he was a bit stupid, picking the ball up when already on a yellow. But he always looked the most likely to score and had a few chances from corners and also a goal disallowed.
And of course, Mo Salah scored the winner. But that was his first proper chance throughout the game. He didn’t scare defenders like he usually does, but with help from today’s man of the match, Andy Robertson, Liverpool beat Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace and are in a very good position to finish in the top four.
