Following his performance against Manchester City on Wednesday, Mohamed Salah has been named UEFA Champions League player of the week. The Egyptian scored one and assisted Sadio Mane for Liverpool’s third goal.
However, Salah was forced off with an injury and Klopp gave an update to his status for the Merseyside Derby and the second-leg tie against Manchester City:
“You can imagine we have tried everything to make him available. There are still 23 hours to go until we start (the match). Let’s see what happens. I cannot make Mo available because it’s a derby. I’d never do that. You cannot push a player through a game. I don’t think any of our supporters want him to do that. If he’s a doubt he will not be involved. If they are not 100% fit, they cannot be involved.”
If Salah is unable to regain full fitness, Klopp has stated he may use Danny Ings against Everton.

Klopp has once again condemned the behaviour of the fans who threw objects at the Manchester City team bus
The manager said: “I have to say apologies again for how things happened before the game. You go with your own bus through the crowd and it feels fantastic and it’s great. It’s support, it’s passion. We come into the stadium and the first thing I heard was they had smashed the bus of Manchester City and it kills everything.”
As a result of their actions, Liverpool have been charged by UEFA and a fine is expected.
Despite the actions of the fans, Klopp did praise Manchester City’s medical team for the kind gesture they made after the game. The team bus had stopped to help an injured Liverpool fan before making their way back to Manchester.
