Team News:
Ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League match against Manchester City on Wednesday, the reds have been hit with a massive injury blow. Jurgen Klopp has announced Joel Matip will be out for the rest of the season with a thigh injury. The defender suffered the injury in the win against Crystal Palace and will require surgery.
The reds will also be without Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan for the Champions League match due to injuries. It means Van Dijk and Lovren will be the only fit defenders Klopp has. Nathaniel Clyne is also in contention to play against Manchester City.
Klopp said: “The only problem we have is that Clyney has been a long time without football; he had games with the U23s but not all week or whatever, it was in the last one or two months. Physically, he is fit – but he has no football rhythm, to be honest.”
Emre Can is nearing full fitness after suffering a back injury. However, it is unlikely the German will feature against City.
“He has a training session this afternoon, but even when we could need him really, we cannot rush it. That’s how it is. There is no chance,” added Klopp
Adam Lallana will be out of action for a few weeks according to Jurgen Klopp. The midfielder was injured in the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.
