Penalty heartbreak for Gerrard’s youngsters
Steven Gerrard’s u18’s side have been knocked out of the UEFA Youth League on penalties to Manchester City.
The former Liverpool captain had taken the team to the Quarter Finals of the competition in his first season as a manager.
After dispatching rivals Manchester United in the last round, Gerrard and his youngsters were in high spirits going into Wednesday’s clash at City’s The Academy Stadium.
Curtis Jones had put the Reds in front but were pegged back by Lukas Nmecha’s equaliser.
City won the tie 3-2 on penalties.
Reds await Champions League draw
Liverpool fans across the globe will be awaiting the Champions League Quarter Final draw tomorrow.
The round of 16 ties were concluded last night with Barcelona and Bayern Munich joining Real Madrid, Roma, Sevilla, Manchester City and Juventus in the last 8.
Drawing teams from the same nation is now back in play when it gets to the Quarter Final stage, so Jurgen Klopp could come up against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Liverpool have faced Sevilla in the group stage twice already this season, drawing on both occasions.
Klopp interest in Werner
Jurgen Klopp is believed to be ahead of the queue to sign RB Leipzig striker Tino Werner in the summer.
According to the Independent, Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the German centre forward and have shown the most relevant interest amongst a number of other possible suitors so far.
Werner has 17 goals in 35 games so far this season, netting in Leipzig’s recent 2-1 Europa League win over Zenit St.Petersburg.
