New UEFA Rules, Will Klopp Rest Big Stars For Porto? U23s Prepare For International Cup

Liverpool have been handed a boost with UEFA implementing new rules for qualifying for the Champions League. Teams in the top four will automatically qualify for the group stages whereas before, the fourth-placed team would have to participate in a qualifying round.

All four of Liverpool’s Premier League games in April have been rescheduled for TV coverage. These games include Everton, Bournemouth, West Brom and Stoke City.

A winter break could finally make its way into the Premier League next season. The FA have reached an agreement with the Premier League and Football League to have a two-week break in early February.

Team News:

Roberto Firmino’s performances may have earned him a starting spot in Brazil’s World Cup team according to manager  Tite. Firmino has been in fine form this season for the Reds having been named Player of the Month in January.

Despite thrashing FC Porto away in the Last-16 of the Champions League, Jurgen Klopp has said he won’t rest his stars when Porto come to Anfield next week.

Klopp said: “That’s the situation. We play Man United, we will not rest anybody. We will play a strong side against Porto and a strong side against United.”

Nathaniel Clyne is nearing a return to the first team after he completed 90 minutes with the U23s. Clyne trained with the first team today and could potentially make his first team return soon.

Youth News:

Liverpool U23s will face FC Porto in the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday. The Reds defeated PSV in the previous round. Confidence levels will be high as they are coming off a 4-0 victory against Stoke in the Premier League Cup.

The U18s have a difficult game ahead as they face Manchester City on Saturday. Liverpool are currently four points off first place Manchester United and a win will close the gap. Manchester City are currently two points behind Liverpool.
