Harry Kane has said that Liverpool centre back, Virgil van Dijk, is wrong to have said he dived. In the first penalty decision from the game against Spurs on Sunday, Kane is seen to have rounded Karius and then thrown himself to the floor. The man who hit 100 Premier League goals in that game said “I felt contact and I went down. I’m not going to jump out of the way because it’s football.”
In the end Kane ended up missing this penalty, but smashing home his second opportunity minutes later as Van Dijk bought down Erik Lamela.
Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp were clearly not happy with the decisions that went against them in this game. Klopp said after the match “”If I said what I think, I would pay the biggest fine in world football.”
England international, Adam Lallana has also been in the controversial spotlight this week. On his return from the injury, the 29-year-old featured for the U23’s against Tottenham. The former Southampton man lost his temper and grabbed hold of a Spurs player’s head.
Obviously. Lallana was sent down the tunnel with a straight red card. However, his ban will not affect his first team football, meaning he could be in the squad for the trip to his former stomping ground, St Mary’s.
Liverpool’s former Southampton players, Van Dijk and co, will have to expect a poor reception at the St Mary’s on Sunday. The Liverpool side could include 5 former Southampton players, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Virgil van Dijk’s first time back to the south coast since his big money move to Anfield. Nathaniel Clyne, also formerly of Southampton, will miss out through injury.
Transfer Rumours
Liverpool transfer target, Thomas Lemar has rejected a contarct at his current club Monaco. However, the reds are seemed to have cooled their interest in the Frenchman.
Some have speculated that the drop in interest of Lemar could hint at Liverpool turning their heads to Spanish superstar Isco. The Real Madrid man has been blamed for his sides poor run of form by manager Zinedine Zidane who wants to offload the former Malaga midfielder in the summer.
