Corey Whelan – Yeovil Town
Under-23 captain, Corey Whelan became the first Liverpool player to leave the club on loan this January. The versatile defender joined up with League Two side Yeovil Town earlier this week and made his debut during their FA Cup match on Saturday. Yeovil comfortably beat Bradford City 2-0 in the third round of the cup and game was all but over by the time Whelan made his entrance as an 85th-minute substitute. Yeovil are struggling in the league, however, and find themselves in 21st position. They’ll be hoping that their new recruit could bring some solidity to their back line and help save them from the drop.
Sheyi Ojo – Fulham
Fulham put in a poor display in the FA Cup against Southampton and the 1-0 scoreline in favour of the Saints could’ve been a whole lot worse. Sheyi Ojo started the afternoon on the bench but was brought on midway through the second half, as his side switched to a more attacking formation in search of an equaliser. Ojo could not spark a comeback, and his mediocre performance was mirrored by the rest of his teammates.
Ryan Kent
Ryan Kent is officially a Liverpool player once again after his disastrous spell with SC Freiburg was ended prematurely. He is registered as a Reds’ player and was due to feature for the Under-23s against Arsenal, but the game was postponed due to a frozen pitch. It is expected that the club will set about finding a new loan destination for Kent, this time a little closer to home in the Championship.
Ben Woodburn
It has long been expected that Ben Woodburn is to join up with his former international boss at Sunderland. Chris Coleman jumped at the opportunity to sign the 18-year-old when he was first made available by Liverpool, to gain more first-team experience. However, the deal has been stalled due to Philippe Coutinho’s recent big-money move to Barcelona. Pair this with Mohamed Salah’s recent injury issues and Woodburn may be needed at Anfield after all. Of course, Salah should be back sooner rather than later and a replacement for Coutinho is likely to arrive in this window, but as a precaution, the Woodburn move is on ice for now.
Danny Ward
There isn’t really anything new to say about the future of Danny Ward, as Jurgen Klopp remains tight-lipped over any January deals whatsoever. The Welsh international has already turned down a temporary move to Sunderland and the boss has admitted that some loan moves for a number of players, including Ward, have been rejected. The goalkeeper excelled at Huddersfield last campaign, but he seems to be happy as the number three at Anfield and there is a potentiality that we’ll see him make a first-team appearance before this season is done.
