Peter is today joined by Craig Hegarty to discuss Liverpool and the season so far…
PP: How would you sum up Liverpool’s season so far?
CH: In one word, disappointing. I feel that we’ve let ourselves down to a certain degree. For a season that promised so much over the summer, it hasn’t lived up to the hype thus far. I didn’t expect to win the league, but I expected to be challenging. Which we aren’t. In terms of Europe, we had two disappointing draws but we look good to get out of the group. There have been several positives so there is plenty to build on. I think there’s plenty to look forward to. If we can put a run together and string 7 or 8 wins in a row who knows were we could end up.
PP: Who has been the best performer for Liverpool in your opinion?
CH: Mo Salah. He has been superb, he really has. So many people doubted him due to his ill fated stint at Chelsea, but he’s came back and proved them wrong. Phenomenal start to his Liverpool career. Alberto Moreno has to have a mention as well, his performances have been super and he’s really came on and developed.
PP: Which has been the best LFC performance this season?
CH: I enjoyed the Arsenal game, but I think the West Ham performance was excellent. We dominated them from start to finish and the fluidity in our tactics was excellent. It was great to see us adapt and change to counter act the opposition. Our pressing game is only useful when other teams are willing to go toe to toe – which few are.
PP: Which has been the LFC worst performance?
CH: There have been some stinking performances from us this year. Mainly the City & Spurs games. The performance against City though takes it for me. I don’t think the sending off of Mane was a feasible excuse to get beat that bad. Against Spurs all the goals were individual mistakes, we weren’t good either but I think the City game was the worst. We didn’t manage the situation at all.
PP: Do you think Klopp will address the defensive problems by making signings in January?
CH: I’m genuinely not sure. He seems to have this affinity to Lovren, but I hope so. Yet again our defensive failings are clear for all to see – I personally think Klopp has to address the issues. We need 2 new CB minimum in January.
PP: What are your hopes and expectations for the rest of the season?
CH: Silverware. As it always is, many people want to top 4 and I can see why, but we haven’t won a trophy in years so I’ll take anything! Preferably the Champions League but I’d settle for the FA Cup.
PP: Who would you sell/buy in January to strengthen the squad?
