Spartak’s most impressive defender – limited the space available for Firmino and Salah to operate

Struggled against Alexander-Arnold who often got past him and produced some good crosses

Scored Spartak’s opener with a well-taken free-kick and played an important role in the defensive midfield
Mario Pasalic – 6
The Chelsea loanee sat in front of his defence for most of the match – very rarely going beyond the halfway line
Aleksandr Samedov – 6
Was virtually alongside his right-back for most of the game to aid him defensively – he did occasionally venture further up the pitch but failed to create anything of note
Ivelin Popov – 6
Was involved in most of Spartak’s attacks that mainly happened in the first-half, but was one of many who was suffering from cramp at the final whistle

Was left isolated for much of the match but, when the ball did find its way to him, he showed good close control

Should have done better with Fernando’s free-kick but, apart from a few crosses, was rarely called upon
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
A night of enjoyable attacking for the youngster – asked to do very little defensively, he impressed with his bursts forward on the right-hand side and linked up well with Salah

Not really tested as Spartak were set up to defend thus was able to bring the ball out of defence at times.
Dejan Lovren – 7
Was hardly troubled in defence but did produce some vital interceptions and was a threat at set-pieces
Alberto Moreno – 6
Attacked well on the left-hand side but some of his final balls were wayward
Emre Can – 5
An early yellow card forced him to rein in his tackling and it was his mistake that gifted Spartak possession that led to the free-kick
Jordan Henderson – 7
Had a good game at the heart of the Liverpool team – played some lovely crosses and through-balls; one paving the way for the equaliser and another that should have been finished off by substitute Sturridge
Philippe Coutinho – 7
Committed the foul for Fernando’s goalscoring free-kick but made up for it less than 10 minutes later by scoring Liverpool’s equaliser
Mohamed Salah – 6
A constant threat playing on the shoulder of the Spartak defence – had numerous shots and should have won the match with a late header

Another anonymous performance but did manage one snatched shot in the latter stages.

Wasn’t afforded a lot of time and space by the Spartak defence to demonstrate his quality and speed but was involved in a four-on-two counterattack that should have ended with Liverpool’s second goal.
