Gerrard makes plea to Liverpool owners

Steven Gerrard is as desperate for the Reds to recruit some star names, especially Virgil van Dijk who is being consistently linked to Liverpool all summer.

The Dutchman has handed in a transfer request and has been banished to training with the Under-23s, but Southampton are so far refusing to deal or entertain any offers for his services.

“Yes, for me, if you want to compete in the league and in the Champions League [Van Dijk is needed],” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“It’s been well documented that we need two or three signings in.”

Liverpool has reached verbal agreement with Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic

Liverpool have reportedly struck up a verbal agreement with Real Madrid to sign squad player Mateo Kovacic before the transfer window closes.

The Croatian star has struggled to make an impression since his switch from Inter Milan in 2015 and has verbally agreed to join Liverpool in the hope of securing regular first team football for himself.

He has failed to break into the starting eleven at the Bernabeu, playing second fiddle to Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the midfield. The strength of depth is also restricting Kovacic from making into the first team with Isco, Marco Asensio and new signing Dani Ceballos make for highly able deputies.

Coutinho wants clear-the-air talks with Liverpool

Philippe Coutinho is ready to hold clear-the-air talks with Liverpool to explain what happened and why he now wants to play for Liverpool again.

The Brazilian international emailed a transfer request to the club earlier this month, which was rejected by Liverpool. However, after a series of rejected bids from Barcelona, the Catalan club appears to have ended their interest which leaves Coutinho in an awkward position on Merseyside.

Fingers are being pointed at Barcelona for manipulating Coutinho and also suggested that the Nou Camp club used family members to provide additional pressure. The player’s representatives also insist that the ill-conceived email was Barcelona’s idea.

When Coutinho is fit again he will be now expected to return to the Liverpool team and the Liverpool players are expected to welcome him back to the team with open arms. The Reds will also continue to search for new recruitments before the end of the transfer window after Southampton and RB Leipzig unwillingness to deal Virgil van Dijk or Naby Keita respectively.
