Liverpool reject Juventus’s Can bid
Liverpool have refused a €25m offer from Juventus for Emre Can, according to the Mirror on Sunday newspaper. Liverpool are unwilling to let Emre Can leave this summer even as they are yet to come to a solution over his contract stand-off with the club. The possibility of losing Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, make Liverpool reluctant to part ways with Can as well.
According to reports, negotiations over a new contract at Anfield have stalled for the German international and Liverpool would rather let Can leave for free next summer instead of cashing in on one of Jurgen Klopp’s key performers.
The midfielder is thought to be at the top of Coach Massimiliano Allegri’s list of reinforcements. However, Liverpool turned down the latest proposal from Juventus for the German who they signed for £10 million from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014.
With Coutinho believed to be seeking an exit from the club, Can will be hoping to play a more crucial role for the Reds this season in both the Premier League as well as the Champions League.
Danny Ward wants showdown talks with Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool snub
Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward wants assurances about his role in the team after being left out of Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squad at Watford on Saturday, according to the Daily Mail. Jurgen Klopp selected Simon Mignolet to start between the sticks with Loris Karius named among the substitutes and left the 24-year-old out of the squad.
Ward, who played a major role in Huddersfield’s shock promotion to the Premier League last season, is concerned about spending the season as the third-choice keeper. Huddersfield boss David Wagner remains interested in bringing him back to the John Smith’s Stadium, however, Klopp plans to have three goalkeepers in his first-team squad this season.
Ward joined Liverpool from Wrexham in 2012 and has made two senior appearances for the club. He went on loan spells at Morecambe and Aberdeen before his impressive stint at Huddersfield where he played a big part in securing promotion from the Championship. Solid displays in the preseason put him into a three-way fight for the Liverpool number one spot but his future remains uncertain as of now.
