Afternoon Bulletin

Comeback win for Liverpool U23s against Rapid Vienna

Cameron Brannagan was on the mark as Liverpool U23s came from a goal down to gain an impressive win by beating Rapid Vienna 3-1 in Hungary on Saturday afternoon.

Just before the half-time break a surging run from Matty Virtue saw him brought down in the penalty area, and Sam Hart made no mistake with the spot kick.

Brannagan made it 2-1 with an excellent finish on 73 minutes, before Toni Gomes made certain of the victory 30 seconds later when he netted from close range after superb work from Yan Dhanda.

Kevin Stewart Completes Hull City Move

Kevin Stewart completes his £8M move to Hull City for Kevin Stewart after the young midfielder had flown back from Hong Kong, finalised personal terms with the Tigers, and completed his medical.

“Coming here was an opportunity that was just too good to turn down,” reflected Stewart.

“It was a difficult decision to leave Liverpool. It’s a club that I love and have loved for a long time. I’ve supported Liverpool since I was a young boy and it was my life goal to be a regular there. But, at the same time, I felt this was a move that I needed to make in order to further my career.”

Kevin Stewart has since made his first Hull City appearance on Saturday night as Leonid Slutsky’s team ended their three-game Portugal camp with a 1-0 win over Portuguese champions Benfica.

“I was pleased to get the win in my first game. It was very tiring as I’ve done a lot of travelling this week and to get the minutes was really important. I thought the boys did really well,” Stewart told the Hull City club website.

“Benfica had a lot of qualities but we defended well. It was really difficult when Dawson got sent off and they had a lot more opportunities, but that happens.”

Liverpool reportedly make enquiry for Spanish international

Reports have confirmed that Liverpool has joined Arsenal in the race for Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez, and have made enquiries for the 26-year-old.

The Spain international has been a fringe player at the Santiago Bernabeu, starting just 12 La Liga games last term, so the possibility of regular playing time at Anfield could tempt him into agreeing to a move if a solid offer is tabled.
