Season in Numbers: Part Nine

15 – Different scorers in all competitions

Liverpool had a total of 15 different goal scorers throughout their 2016/17 campaign, with 12 different scorers in the league.

17 – Clean sheets kept by the Reds in all games

With some shaky and unconvincing defensive performance’s, the Reds did manage a total of 17 clean sheets, again with a dozen coming in the league.

586.58 – Average passes per match

A huge amount of passes – a common feature in Jurgen Klopp’s style of play – yet one which often led to very poor results for his side, particularly against sides in the bottom half.

27 – Appearances for Daniel Sturridge

The forward certainly needs to provide more in the final third for his side after just seven goals in 27 appearances in all competitions, yet he did manage two in four for England in their current 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

22 – Substitute appearances for Divock Origi

This staggering number was more than any other Liverpool player and was indeed one more than the number of starts Origi made, a situation he won’t want to find himself in again this coming season.

53,016 – Spectators on average

After the phenomenal stadium redevelopment at Anfield, more Reds packed into to support their team than ever, with this fantastic amount producing the average home league attendance.

29 – Times on live TV for Liverpool

The Reds were incredibly featured live on TV for 29 of their 38 league games, which unsurprisingly set a new record.

10 – Errors leading to goal

A shaky defence and often questionable goalkeeping produced some rather nervy moments at the back last season, costing 10 goals in total, a simply unforgivable amount for a side competing for a Premier League title.

4 – Number of FA Cup rounds reached

In another dismal FA Cup campaign, Liverpool reached just the fourth round and were once again knocked out by lower league opposition with a humiliating 2-1 defeat to Wolves.

1.11 – Goals conceded per match

Yet another disconcerting factor which highlights the negativity at the back, especially compared to the positivity and free flowing football being played up front.

1 – Goal scored by Danny Ings in the first pre-season fixture of 2016/17

Yet another forward who will be looking to finally get his Liverpool career up and running after two hugely disappointing injury-hit seasons. Klopp has insisted the former Burnley man is certainly in his plans after continuing his hard work off the pitch.
