Liverpool to announce Salah today and Grujic disappointed again

Afternoon Bulletin

Salah expected today

Following a medical at the Melwood training facility yesterday, it is expected that Liverpool will announce the signing of Mohamed Salah today. The 25-year-old is costing £39million to sign, which will be a new Liverpool record and it is hoped that his tenure at Anfield will be more successful than the previous holder of that record, Andy Carroll.

Jürgen Klopp made Salah a number one target after any deal Julian Brandt was made impossible. Salah’s left-sided, attacking wing play looks to be a perfect counter balance to Sadio Mane on the right side. However, Liverpool fans will be nervous the next time the AFCON comes around in 2019, as losing two key players could spell disaster, much like it did this campaign when only Mane was lost to the tournament.

Salah has previously had a spell in the Premier League after he signed for Chelsea and consequently making just six Premier League starts. The Egyptian had a fantastic season in Serie A with Roma, scoring 15 league goals for them.

Klopp optimistic of four more big names

This transfer window was always set to be a big and important one for Liverpool. With a transfer budget in the region upward of £150million, Klopp was expected to bring in a number of star players. Following the signing of Salah four more key signings are due to come into the squad, with a number of lower-profile signings are likely to be made to add depth. Look out for a new left-back and centre-back to come in and assume that the transfer record will be broken for a second time this summer.

Grujic involved in U21 draw

Marko Grujic had a disappointing outing for Serbia Under-21s yesterday as they looked to bounced back from a 2-0 defeat a few days ago. They faced FYR Macedonia in their second group stage game, and the clash finished 2-2. Grujic missed a couple of chances in the first half to put his side ahead, and also picked up a booking for his troubles. Grujic was eventually substituted in the 52nd minute with his side 1-0 up. Serbia have just one point from their opening two games and will need to win against Spain on Friday if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
