Milner’s penalty record comes to an end as Southampton dented Liverpool bid for Champions League football

A missed penalty by James Milner dented Liverpool’s hopes of playing Champions League football next season as the Reds dropped a crucial two points at Anfield. The left-back had found the back of the net with his 10 previous efforts from the spot for the Reds, before seeing Fraser Forster deny him with a great save thus clinching a fourth straight clean sheet against Jurgen Klopp’s side this term.

Milner’s inability to convert from the spot means this is the first time he has failed to score a Premier League penalty since November 2009 for Aston Villa vs Bolton. He has scored 19 penalties over the course of his club career and two for England’s U21 side.

The result pushes Liverpool up to third, but both Manchester City and Manchester United have games in hand.

Liverpool announce contract signing

Liverpool starlet George Johnston has signed his first pro contract in a statement released by the club. The 18-year-old central defender, who has been at the club since the age of nine, has been featuring regularly for the Liverpool’s Under-18s this term has also represented Scotland at youth level.

He also made a sole appearance at Premier League 2 level when he came off the bench against Derby County in February.

Awoniyi scores late winner for Dutch Side

Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi’s first goal for his loan side NEC Nijmegen proved to be the winner as it hands them all three points against the ten men of AZ Alkmaar.

With seven minutes left, the Liverpool forward was introduced from the bench and scored a header from a cross within five minutes of his introduction. He was also booked after taking off his shirt during the celebration of the goal.

Liverpool make Lucas Moura enquiry

According to reports surfacing in France, Liverpool have asked Paris Saint-Germain about the availability of Lucas Moura ahead of the transfer window. Liverpool will face strong competition for the 24-year-old as Atletico Madrid are also in the race for the Brazilian winger, who currently has two years remaining on his contract.

L’Equipe claim that Lucas Moura is aware that the reigning French champions are prepared to sell him this summer if the right offer is made. He has been a regular in Ligue 1, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in 35 appearances this season and is valued at £30 million.
