Liverpool reached Casillas agreement while club receives award

Liverpool reached Casillas agreement

Liverpool reportedly have a pre-contract agreement in place with goalkeeper Iker Casillas as he considers his options ahead of a Porto exit this summer after his two-year deal coming to an end.

It is understood that the Merseyside club face competition with clubs from China, Turkey, and Qatar, should he chooses to cash in and go for a lucrative deal over playing in one of Europe’s top leagues. However, the report details that the experienced shot-stopper is open to a Premier League switch and is determined to leave Portuguese giants.

Casillas is recognised as one of the best goalkeepers in recent decades. The Spain international won the World Cup in 2010 and has a staggering 167 international caps for his country. Meanwhile, he has had a very successful club career at Real Madrid after graduating through their academy.

He won three Champions Leagues and five league titles during his time at the Bernabeu and before completing a move to Porto in 2015. Despite the Spanish shot-stopper turning 36 later this month, he still enjoyed a successful season in Portugal where he conceded just 23 goals in 43 games.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has alternated between goalkeeping options Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius this season, but it appears neither of them are certainties to be the first-choice at Anfield next season.

Ex-Red Harry Kewell appointed head coach of Crawley

Former Liverpool forward Harry Kewell has been appointed head coach of Crawley. The Australian was in charge of the Watford Under-23 team from June 2015 before leaving Vicarage Road last month.

The 38-year-old is currently working on his UEFA Pro Licence coaching qualification and will be assisted by former Northern Ireland striker, Warren Feeney.

“During his interview, Harry showed us great passion – that’s needed to make this team move onwards,” Crawley director of football Selim Gaygusuz told the official club website.

Sydney-born Kewell made over 100 appearances for Liverpool. He played in two Champions League finals for Liverpool and also played in two World Cup finals for Australia. He was also the first Australian to play in the Champions League final when Liverpool beat AC Milan on penalties.

Kewell will be unveiled by League Two outfit Crawley at a press conference on Friday.

Liverpool received end of season award

Liverpool have won this season’s Fair Play award, having not picked up a single red card during the entire campaign. Liverpool collected 54 yellow cards which average less than two per game. Watford are the worst disciplined team as they collected 84 yellows and five reds in 38 games.

The prize money of £20,000 will be used to reduce season ticket prices for those aged between 17 and 21. Finishing top of the Fair Play Table used to merit a spot in the Europa League, but that ruling was scrapped in 2015.
