Liverpool Hit West Ham For Four

Match Report

Liverpool were up against West Ham which was like a cup final to some extent as, if the Reds were to win this, they would take a major step forward in their pursuit of Champions League football next season.

There were a couple of changes to the Liverpool line-up as Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana were introduced for an injured Roberto Firmino and Lucas who was only fit to make the bench.

As for West Ham they had a few noteworthy absentees to the team as former Liverpool striker Andy Caroll was injured. West Ham were looking to make it two wins on the bounce as they had beaten Spurs the previous week.

The game started with Liverpool in a 4-4-2 diamond having Coutinho on the tip, they were looking really bright in the first 15 minutes as in the 11th minute Coutinho whipped a ball from a corner which found the head of Matip who was unlucky to bar as he headed it down but it came off the underside of the bar.

Liverpool continue to push forward and get something tangible for their first half showing as in the 26th minute Coutinho tries one from 25 yards which flies narrowly over.

Though 10 minutes or so later Coutinho played an inch perfect ball which split the West Ham defence and found Daniel Sturridge, Sturridge did well to stay onside as he found himself one on one with the goalkeeper as he rounds Adrian and opened the scoring for the Redmen.

Just before the break West Ham won their first corner which was swung in by Lanzini which so Ayew at the end of it who couldn’t scramble the ball into the back of the net as he had two chances both hitting the post.

Right after the break, Liverpool continued their exuberance which they displayed in the first half as Origi, Lallana and Wijnaldum force saves from Adrian.

At the stroke of the hour mark Liverpool doubled the lead as Gini Wijnaldum’s outrageous effort from 30 yards smacks the crossbar, and then Coutinho drives it home from a distance!

Just 4 minutes later Liverpool break away from defending a corner as Coutinho dances past a couple of West Ham defenders and slams in his 2nd and Liverpool’s 3rd.

Liverpool were really at it now as in the 65th-minute; Origi’s effort was off the bar!

Liverpool were all over West Ham as just moments later Origi was in the right place at the right time to slot away from close range.

The match ended 4-0 to Liverpool and it there couldn’t have been anything else that Klopp would have wanted from his boys as they displayed superior quality.
