U23’s Come From Behind and Klopp Keen on Koulibaly

Afternoon Bulletin

U23’s come from behind to secure three points

After the senior side ground out a victory against West Brom, it was the U23’s turn to put in a gutsy performance on Monday afternoon. The youngsters travelled to Leicester to take on a side who find themselves precariously placed above the relegation zone in Premier League 2. The Reds went in at half time a goal down, but an impressive display in the second period gave them their second comeback victory in as many weeks. Goals from Rhian Brewster, Matty Virtue and skipper Harry Wilson meant the visitors finished the game as dominant 3-1 victors. Wilson’s strike in the 85th minute is the 28th time he’s found the net this campaign. These three points leave Liverpool comfortably in third position.

Disappointment for the Ladies

It was a less successful afternoon for Liverpool Ladies as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by reigning champions, Manchester City. The side travelled to Manchester full of confidence and excitement, as they looked to book themselves a spot in a deserved final. However, it didn’t go to plan, as a single goal from Melissa Lawley was enough to see City end the game 1-0 ahead. It was an impressive performance from the Reds, but ultimately Scott Rogers’ side were edged out of a close encounter.

Liverpool look to man mountain to strengthen defence

It has been well documented that Liverpool’s defence is one of the weakest in the top half of the league. Many names have been tossed about as possible avenues of reinforcement. The latest name is the Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly. The 6 ft 5’ Senegalese international has been on top form in Serie A this season, and Jürgen Klopp has been rumoured to be taking note. Koulibaly would bring a sense of physicality and power that has been missing from the Liverpool back four for a number of years now. He would come at a price similar to that of Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.

James unsurprisingly linked to United

Outside Liverpool target, James Rodriguez has today been linked to Manchester United, something that every big name must go through at some stage in their career. Rodriguez is set to leave Real Madrid this summer having struggled to get a run in the first team. Liverpool emerged early as a possible destination for the Colombian, but fans have remained skeptical about the prospect of a transfer. However, the Express have reported that Spanish giants WANT to sell Rodriguez to Manchester United thus eradicating any chance of a move to Anfield.
