Liverpool Sydney bound and Klopp gives Mane injury update

Afternoon Bulletin

Liverpool set for Sydney

Ian Rush was in Sydney to help announce the post-season fixture between the Reds and Sydney FC. The game will take place in the ANZ Stadium on 24th May and will be the first time the two sides have faced each other. This is the fourth time Liverpool will play in Australia having previously played in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Ian Rush said, “We have so many incredible fans in Australia and there is always a brilliant atmosphere when we play over here”. It is expected that there are over 2.3million Liverpool fans in the country, so it is fast becoming a destination of high priority.

Update on Mane

Despite initial hopes that surgery could be avoided, Saido Mane is expected to have surgery this morning. He picked up meniscus damage during the 3-1 victory in the Merseyside derby, following a clash with Leighton Baines. They’re anticipating a two-month rehabilitation period which will force one of Liverpool’s star players to miss the closing stages of this season. Jürgen Klopp has remained positive and explained that the long break will ensure that Mane is fully ready to go again next season.

Sakho shows employers what they’re missing

Last night, Crystal Palace put on an emphatic display to beat Arsenal 3-0. One of the star performers was Liverpool loanee, Mamadou Sakho, who put in a rock solid shift in defence to help secure an important clean sheet. Many eyebrows were raised when Sakho fell out of favour at the club and was consequently sent out on loan after a falling out with Jürgen Klopp. Despite this, he is still doing the Reds a favour and aiding their top four bid in any way he can. The result leaves the Gunners nine points adrift with just two games in hand.

Captain’s brace secures point for youngsters

A timely double from skipper Harry Wilson led Liverpool U23’s comeback from a two-goal deficit against Southampton. The Reds found themselves 2-0 down with just 20 minutes to go during their Premier League 2 clash last night but, remained on the front foot throughout. Wilson pulled one back with just under a quarter of an hour to go, before winning a penalty in stoppage time. He stepped up to take the kick himself, which was saved by the goalkeeper but, Wilson reacted the quickest to slot in the rebound. The point leaves Liverpool in third position.

The 20-year-old spoke after the game saying he thrives with the captain’s armband. “I’ve taken on board the extra responsibility. I’ve enjoyed it. I try to embrace it. I try to help the people around me, whether that’s talking to them or with the performances I put in. I’m really enjoying it”.
