Rush highlights importance of derby

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has spoken about this weekend’s clash with Merseyside rivals Everton, stating that a win for the Reds would really strengthen their push for the top 4. After Liverpool’s disastrous start to 2017, Rush believes the team have begun to find some form over recent weeks.

“It’s going to be one hell of a game against Everton because they’re doing alright at the moment as well,” Rush said, “but I think with the crowd behind them, hopefully, Liverpool can get the win.”

“The top four is still the main priority and I think if they can get a win against Everton, it’s on to finish in the top four.”

Henderson hopeful of Everton return

Jordan Henderson is prepared to step up his rehabilitation workload this week, as he aims to return to the squad for the Merseyside derby. Despite not playing since injuring his foot last month, the skipper travelled to Tenerife for warm weather training. The trip was organised by Jürgen Klopp for players who were absent from international duty. With his return to full training, Henderson is hoping he can prove to his boss this week that he should be selected for Saturday lunchtime kickoff.

Mayer could leave Schalke

Attacking midfielder Max Meyer has claimed there is a “50/50” chance that he could be leaving Schalke this summer. There are just over 12 months left on his current contract, but negotiations over an extension have stalled, leading him to consider a move elsewhere.

Jürgen Klopp has been a fan of the German U21 captain for a while, and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is also interested. In July of 2016, Meyer described interest from Klopp as a “nice feeling”, before later calling him “a great coach”. Although these quotes are fairly old, they could leave Liverpool fans to be optimistic they can secure the youngster.

Solanke heading abroad

A few weeks ago it was reported that out of favour Chelsea player Dominic Solanke, had told friends he was heading to Liverpool in the summer. However recent developments suggest that RB Leipzig could be the new favourites to sign the 19-year-old.

Although Solanke is out of contract in the summer, any English club wishing to sign him will be forced to pay £8m in compensation. In contrast to this, foreign clubs will only have to pay £350,000. RB Leipzig are interested in the Englishman and the tiny by comparison fee means that he could be heading to Europe.
