Mane gets “goal of the month,” Hendo still a doubt and is Can off to Juve in the Liverpool Afternoon Bulletin

Afternoon Bulletin

Can to Juventus?

According to The Mirror, Juventus are preparing a £10m bid for Liverpool’s Emre Can at the end of the season and are reportedly front-runners for his signature. Can who is currently in his last 12 months of his current deal have yet to agreed terms with Liverpool for a new deal even though talks were carried out at the turn of the year.

The 23-year-old’s agent is believed to be holding out for a deal that would double his client’s current wages of £35,000 a week. Reports indicate that the Reds feel that the demand is too big and that Liverpool won’t be held to ransom. With Can struggling to hold down a first-team spot, it remains unclear whether Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on the player they signed 3 years ago for £10m.

Henderson remains doubtful for Sunday

A foot injury has kept Henderson out for the past two games as well as training on Tuesday as the Liverpool captain appears likely to miss Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Burnley at Anfield.

Gareth Southgate is also sweating on the Liverpool skipper’s fitness as he is set to name a squad next Thursday for the forthcoming friendly away to Germany on March 22 and the World Cup Qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley four days later. It will be a blow for Southgate if his skipper remains unavailable for selection.

Liverpool captaincy tough for former striker

Speaking for France Football, Luis Suarez revealed that he was never happy being Liverpool captain as he isn’t a natural leader.

“I like to play low profile, be one element among others. I’m here to lend a helping hand to the team, but making decisions is not really my thing.”

“In Liverpool, I had the opportunity to be captain, and it was not natural to me. Even if people have a hard time believing it, I’m pretty shy. I’m not used to being put forward.”

Mane scores February’s goal of the month

Mane opener against Spurs was voted goal of the month for February. Mane outpaced two Spurs defenders and went on to slot the ball into the net after latching on to Wijnaldum through ball with a timely executed run to avoid the offside trap.

Despite Mane absence from the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, Mane is still the leading scorer for Liverpool this season with 12 goals. Fans will be hoping for Mane to continue his scoring form and to add on to his current goal tally as Liverpool pushes for a top-four finish this season.
