Liverpool celebrates 125th birthday

Yesterday saw the 125th anniversary of Liverpool founder John Houlding, leaving the Everton board to form a football club of his own. Houlding was originally president of Everton FC, but fell out with the rest of the board and was ultimately removed from his post. Thus the great Merseyside rivalry was born.

Although the official birthday, when Liverpool was recognised by the Board of Trade, isn’t until June, there were some premature celebrations. A special anniversary crest was unveiled which is expected to feature on next season’s strips. The kits will be revealed sometime in April.

Woodburn for Wales

According to Wales’ assistant manager Osian Roberts, Ben Woodburn could be in line for a Wales call up. The 17-year-old has impressed during his time in the Liverpool first team squad and it could be rewarded with an international selection.

Roberts said “He’s knocking on the door now,” as speculation grows over which international team Woodburn will commit his future to. Despite being in the Wales set up since he was 13, he is also eligible to play for England. However, inclusion in the Wales squad for next week’s match against the Republic of Ireland, will show where his heart truly lies.

Grujic will NOT leave

Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, have expressed their interest to sign Marko Grujic on loan. The 20-year-old has spent time on the sideline due to injuries and has only just returned to full fitness, so a loan move could do him so good. However, Grujic’s agent has stated that Liverpool will not be letting him go, as he features in Jürgen Klopp’s immediate first team plans.

Although it is unlikely that he will become a regular feature in the first team squad this season, Klopp has assured his agent that he relies on Grujic and has complete faith in his ability. The Serbian is optimistic that 2017/18 will be his breakthrough year.

Bayern battle for Brandt

Whenever Liverpool transfer speculation is mentioned, one name continues to pop up. Julian Brandt. Apparently Klopp is ready to make a move for the 20-year-old winger and is prepared to splash out in the region of £20million. However, it appears as though Bayern Munich are ready to sabotage the deal and they have opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen, in an attempt to get Brandt’s signature.

7 Million club

The official @LFC Twitter page passed 7 million followers yesterday. This means Liverpool are just the fourth English side to reach this milestone, a position they’d be very happy to hold in the league table, come the end of the season.
