Gerrard look set to join England setup

Having just re-joined Liverpool in an academy role in February, Steven Gerrard looks set to join the England backroom staff, as he continues to further his development off the pitch.

Having 114 caps for England as well as 710 appearances for Liverpool, Gerrard is considered one of the best English midfielder of all time, According to the Independent, Gerrard “has already had exploratory talks with senior FA figures” regarding a possible role and this could see him join the Three Lions’ coaching ranks in the near future.

Xabi Alonso who has announced retirement from professional football at the end of the season, says he still holds the Merseyside club close to his heart.

“You feel that attachment to the club that it’s forever. It’s not just about a football club, it’s about a family. Wherever I go I see Liverpool flags and I still feel that the supporters appreciate me. It makes me still feel part of the Liverpool family.” Alonso said.

The 35-year-old made 143 Premier League appearances during a five-year spell at Anfield after signing from Real Sociedad in 2004. The defining moment will be his equalising goal against AC Milan in the comeback victory to win the UEFA Champions League at the Istanbul. He also managed to win the FA Cup the following season before his move to Real Madrid in 2009.
