Brazilian ace Roberto Firmino has enjoyed some time in the spotlight for Liverpool of late, largely due to the fact that countryman Coutinho has been out of action through injury.
Firmino has dazzled in the absence of the hugely influential Coutinho and, as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare for a busy festive period, kicking off with the visit of Stoke to Anfield on December 27, the Samba star has been speaking about how he has managed to adapt to life on Merseyside.
Firmino, 25, has pointed to his success in the transition from playing football in Germany for Hoffenheim as key to him being a force in the way Klopp’s men set about their attacking game.
He has become a firm favourite with the Anfield fans since his move 18 months ago and they seemingly appreciate the way he has moulded to the Reds’ style.
He said:
“I have had to change the way I play. I was adapted to European football after playing in Germany for three years but English football is very different to the Bundesliga.”
“You really notice that the Premier League is much, much faster and the pace is very high and you do need to adjust, but this is a type of football that I really enjoy.”
“If I am being really honest, I love it here and plan to stay for many years in the future as the Premier League is really competitive and tests you all of the time.”
Liverpool face a tough test at home to Manchester City on New Year’s Eve after the clash with Stoke and then follow that game up with a trip to the north east when they clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Then there is a break from league action for Klopp’s troops and they host Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup third round on January 8.
