Nathaniel Clyne has hailed Liverpool’s forward play following the 2-1 win over West Brom at Anfield yesterday.
Reds right-back Clyne admits he was buzzing after Jurgen Klopp’s outfit controlled the match against a resolute Tony Pulis’ side and got their reward for their domination with a deserved three points to maintain an excellent start to the campaign.
Sadio Mane and the outstanding Philippe Coutinho handed the Kop kings the advantage and they held on for the victory despite some pressure from the visitors, which resulted in a consolation goal for the Baggies through Gareth McAuley.
Clyne said: “It was a very professional performance, we knew what we had to do out there to get the three points. We played really well, especially in the first half when we took the game to them and were really bright. They couldn’t live with us.
“We’re disappointed not to kick on in the second half but we stuck in there and managed to defend what they threw at us. We’re happy with the three points.”
Meanwhile, goal ace Mane — a £35 million recruit by Klopp in the summer from Southampton — has praised the Anfield chief’s preparation of his squad going in to the encounter.
He said: “We deserved the win today and played a wonderful game to get the three points. It wasn’t easy because they were very compact but we trained hard for this every day in training”.
“It made it easier because we tried to move between the lines. We know each other now, we try to work hard as a team in training and the game becomes more comfortable.”
Klopp had praise for the Reds fans for their vocal backing of their side against Albion.
He said: “The atmosphere was outstanding, it was Anfield at its best. I’ve been here a little more than a year, but that was the best performance of the crowd in a non-European game.”
Liverpool host Tottenham in the fourth round of the League Cup on Tuesday.
