MANSFIELD TOWN 1-2 LIVERPOOL
Liverpool overcame a tricky test against in the FA Cup 3rd round at Mansfield on Sunday evening.
Playing in front of a partisan home crowd of 7,540, Liverpool got off to the perfect start after barely 7 minutes when debutante Daniel Sturridge scored a well-taken goal following a nice through pass from Jonjo Shelvey.
The Reds dominated the first-half and should have been at least, three goals up.
However, it was the ‘Stags’ who started the second-half the strongest, dominating midfield, and creating chances that Jamie Carragher and keeper Brad Jones did well to keep out.
Luis Suarez came on for a tiring Sturridge on 55 minutes and he had the ball in the net three minutes later when he appeared to handle the ball into the net from a rebound from the goalkeeper.
The goal stood, despite the players and the home-crowds protests.
Mansfield got a foothold back in the game when a Green shot found its way into the Liverpool net on 79 minutes, but it was not enough as Liverpool held out for a nervy 2-1 win.
