VIDEO OF SHELVEY’S GOAL AS LIVERPOOL DRAW 2-2 WITH YOUNG BOYS

Friends Of Liverpool

Liverpool twice threw away a one goal lead at Anfield to end up drawing their crucial Europa League game against Young Boys, when a win would have ensured qualification to the next stage for the Reds.

An experimental Liverpool team without Gerrard, Suarez or Joe Allen scored through a Johnjo Shelvey header on 33 mins.

They were brought back down to earth when Bobadilla scored a stunning goal for Young Boys on 52 mins.

Rodgers brought on Steven Gerrard for a limping André Wisdom which seemed to galvanise the team into attacking mode.

Liverpool took the lead again with less than twenty minutes remaining in the tie through Joe Cole who was having his best game in a Liverpool shirt.

Strangely, he was then replaced by Luis Suarez with the game seemingly won for the Merseysiders.

The Swiss team never gave up and gained an unlikely draw with a smashing finish by Zverotic in the 88th minute.

It was cruel luck on Liverpool who were the better team and it now means they have to beat Udinese away on the 6th of December to go through to the next stages of the Europa League.

There was a gaping hole in midfield which the long-awaited returning Lucas must fill.
