Liverpool failed to close the gap on Chelsea tonight as they could only manage a two all draw against Birmingham at Anfield.
David Ngog opened the scoring for the Reds with a thunderous volley into the roof of the net on 12mins.
However Birmingham were soon level when Christian Benitez headed a goal from a free kick on 28mins.
Liverpool has 75% of the play and were totally dominating the game.
Albert Riera pulled up with a hamstring injury again and was replaced by Steven Gerrard on 45 mins.
The Blues took a shock lead in first half injury-time through a wonder shot from Cameron Gerome from 35 yards out.
Liverpool came out fighting again in the second half and had numerous chances and shots at goal but it wasn’t until the 68min when Ngog won a penalty, he took a dive.
Steven Gerard blasted the ball into the bottom right corner to level the game.
Benayoun then went off with a suspected hamstring injury as well on 77mins to be replaced by Ryan Babel.
Liverpool kept attacking but Birmingham held firm.
Aquilani came on for Lucas late in the game but we couldn’t find a way through, despite almost total dominance of the game.
