Liverpool\u2019s official accounts were released on Wednesday morning and they showed a record revenue of \u00a3301.8m. However, after spending the last two seasons in overall profit, the club made a pre-tax loss of \u00a319.8m.<\/p>\n
The figures were for the financial year ending in May 2016, and there were a number of reasons for the club ending the year down. First of all, former manager, Brendan Rodgers had to be paid off, before the new boss, J\u00fcrgen Klopp and his team were brought in. There were also 12 new signings, as well as a number of contract extensions and the redevelopment of the Main Stand played a major part in the disappointing profit margin.<\/p>\n
However, the board are not worried. Chief Operating Officer, Andy Hughes said, \u201cThe figures reflect continued investment in the club, both in terms of the squad, in bringing J\u00fcrgen into the club and also the impact of the new Main Stand development.<\/p>\n
Since FSG acquired the club we have seen revenue growth in every single year. It’s now a record of \u00a3301m for LFC so we’re very pleased that that trend has continued.\u201d<\/p>\n
The increase in revenue puts the club at 9th in the Deloitte Football Money League.<\/p>\n
Joe Gomez is working toward his return to first team football, and his involvement in the U23\u2019s 1-0 victory over West Brom, came with positive implications. The 19-year-old started the 15\/16 season promisingly, but suffered serious cruciate ligament damage while on England U21 duty. The injury has kept him out of Premier League action since October 2015.<\/p>\n
After the game, Gomez expressed his gratitude at the chance to play with U23 squad and said that he is learning from every minute he spends on the pitch. Italian media are reporting that the Reds are showing a strong interest in Fiorentina winger, Federico Chiesa. Apparently a Liverpool scout was watching the 2-2 draw with Torino and was ultimately impressed by the 19-year-old\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n
Chiesa has been at the club since he was 10, but has only just broken into the first team this season. He has made 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.<\/p>\n
Former Liverpool defender turned pundit, Jamie Carragher has been involved in an online argument with Leicester City player, Danny Simpson.<\/p>\n
The Twitter \u2018beef\u2019 started after Simpson retweeted a picture of Carragher in an Everton training shirt. The picture was taken as part of a segment for the television show Soccer AM. Simpson questioned his loyalty by stating that Carragher\u2019s Monday Night Football colleague, Gary Neville, would never be caught in a Manchester City shirt.<\/p>\n
Carragher responded angrily and the interaction turned to Simpson\u2019s achievement of winning the Premier League, something that Carragher never accomplished during his playing career. At the time of writing, it\u2019s unclear who won the altercation, but on more than one occasion Simpson avoided questions about whether or not he had anything to do with the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.<\/p>\n
