Liverpool FC Club Records

In this area of the site you will fine club records for Liverpool FC, such as records in club competitions.

These articles in this section are updated after each season. The current information is up to date as of the end of the 2023/2024 season.

Premier League / First Division Record (20)

Only Man Utd with 20 titles have won the same number leagues than the 20 First Division and Premier League titles that belong to Liverpool.  On this page you can read about LFC’s performance in every year of the top flight, not just the years we won it.

Champions League / European Cup Record (6)

Liverpool are, by far, the most successful English team in Europe having won the elite competition no less than six times to date.  On this page you can see how Liverpool have performed in all years that we have entered into the Champions League or before that the European Cup

UEFA Cup / Europa League Record (3)

For much of Liverpool’s history we have not entered into the UEFA Cup / Europa League thanks to the fact that we qualified for the European Cup / Champions League more often than not.  The reds have entered the competition 14 times since 1972 and have won it three times, the last being in 2001 as part of a treble.

FA Cup Record (8)

Despite not winning their first FA Cup until 1965 Liverpool have eight FA Cups to date, which is the joint-third most of any club.  Our FA Cup records page gives you details of how LFC have performed in each year of the FA Cup to date and all of the details on each Cup win.

EFL Cup Record (10)

Liverpool are the record winners of the League Cup with ten wins despite only first winning the trophy in 1981.  The fact they won it four times in a row after that helps explain some of that record but it is a cup that LFC certainly have a love affair with having also won it plenty of times when we were not dominant.

Charity / Community Shield Record (16)

Liverpool have played 24 Charity / Community Shield finals since 1964 and have won it 16 times (of which five of those were shared), which works out at 66.7% success rate.  That is quite good when you consider the trophy is fairly inconsequential.  Liverpool have played in it as league winners, cup winners and even when they have finished second and not won a domestic trophy.

UEFA Super Cup (4)

Played between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League this is a ceremonial trophy like the Community Shield, with often more UEFA dignitaries in attendance than fans.  Still, to play this game you have to win one of football biggest trophies first and foremost and so the Super Cup is still sought after – very much the icing on the cake if you do win it.  Liverpool have four of these, although we’ve been in nine finals so we have lost five too – making the point that it isn’t really that important but it is nice to win.

FIFA Club World Cup (1)

Originally called the Intercontinental Cup, Liverpool first entered in 1981 following their European Cup win and again in 1984 but lost both times.  In 2000 it was rebranded to the Club World Cup and Liverpool entered in 2005, following their famous Istanbul Champions League win, but lost to São Paulo before eventually winning it at the fourth attempt in 2019 beating Flamengo in the final.  Since 2025 the format has changed and it is now held every four years in the summer as a larger competition.

Doubles (8) and Trebles (2)

When you have been as successful as Liverpool have it would be unusual not to have won more than one trophy in a season.  Liverpool, however, have managed eight doubles in their time.  Yes, they only did ‘The Double’ of the FA Cup and League once but they all count.  When it comes to trebles we have yet to win the holy grail of the European Cup, FA Cup and League in a single season but we have still managed two trebles, which is more than most teams can claim.

Second Division Record (4)

The second division record exactly a thing to shout about too much if you are a Liverpool fan but nonetheless we have one, we have been in the second division for 11 years in our history, and so for completeness we look at how we did in those seasons.  LFC won the 2nd division on four occasions with the longest spell being eight years between 1954 and 1962.

Lancashire League (1) Sheriff of London Charity Shield (1)

Is there any such thing as a minor trophy?  For Liverpool fans every win counts and so for completeness we have also looked at Liverpool’s record in their early days, way before we were winning European and FA Cups.  In 1892-93 we won the Lancashire League, at the first time of asking and in 1906 we won the Sheriff of London Charity Shield – most notable for how big the shield actually is!
