From the moment that it was announced that FSG were putting Liverpool up for sale in the November of 2022, we all knew that something like this might be coming. Now it has been confirmed that the ownership group has sold 30% of its stake in the Reds in a deal believed to be worth £1.65 billion.
The sale has been made to a consortium of billionaires that is being led by Amit Bhatia, who recently sold his own shares in Queens Park Rangers in order to allow him to lead the talks on behalf of 1892 Holdings, but who’s involved and what does it mean?
Bad News Bros
The standout name from the consortium that now owns a stake in Liverpool is that of Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder. Anyone delighted that someone reportedly worth around £240 billion is now involved with the Reds should take a breath, though. Bezos is someone who refuses to allow his Amazon workers to be part of a union and who won’t allow his delivery drivers enough time to stop and use the toilet, as exposed in a documentary by Liverpool fan Oobah Butler. He is about as close to a Disney villain as it’s close to get in the real world without Elon Musk’s name being mentioned.

Another name involved is that of Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. That’s right, the guy who became a billionaire by helping soulless ghoul Mark Zuckerberg create a platform specifically designed to allow blokes to rate the attractiveness of women based on just their looks is now involved in the future of Liverpool FC. The good news is that there are unlikely to be any immediate changes to the way that the football club is run. The bad news is that the people who will get involved in the future are bad people who won’t even think before asset stripping if they need to.
