Liverpool’s New Third Kit: 1990s-Inspired

Whilst we would doubtless all love a world in which a football club released one kit and played in that for the season, the reality of both kit clashes and the commercial world in which teams exist nowadays means that that is never going to happen. It means that clubs can release new kits at the start of each campaign, clawing in huge sums of money each time that they do. Things are definitely a bit different for Liverpool this time around, though, on account of the fact that the club is back with Adidas for the first time in more than a decade, which has allowed a few nods to the club’s past.

That is very much the road that Adidas have decided to go down when it comes to the third kit. We’ve already looked at the new home and away offerings from the German company, but the launch of the third kit was held back and it is fair to say that it was worth the wait. The entire ethos of the kit, which will only be used rarely but will doubtless make the Reds a ton of money, is about the Adidas DNA that runs through the club, marrying the modern with the storied history that Liverpool share with the company that first produced our kits back in the mid-1980s.

Sea Green & Trefoil

The main thing that a lot of older Liverpool supporters will be glad to see is the return of the Trefoil, which is the flower-like design that sits in place of the club’s more

modern logo. It wasn’t used on either the home or away kits, but has made a triumphant return on the third kit to signify that nod to the classic kits of the past. The other kits use the ever-increasing three slanted lines instead.

Not only that, but the kit also has a nod to the past that comes in the form of the long-sleeve version, which hasn’t been seen on a Liverpool kit for some time. It means that players can opt to play with either the standard short-sleeve kit or a long-sleeve alternative, which is ideal for winter months.

There is also a more retro crest opposite the Trefoil, showing how much thought Adidas have put into the kit. The top boasts Adidas’ AEROREADY technology, which moves to wick away sweat off the players’ bodies. You can opt for the Authentic shirt, like the players wear, or the more relaxed Fan shirt.

Goalkeeper Kit

liverpool fc 2025-26 third kit goalkeeperIt isn’t just the outfield players that get a new kit, either. Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili will be able to get involved with new kits of their own, which are likely to be almost as popular as the outfield kit. On the one hand, there isn’t too much about it that is all that impressive, given the fact that it is a black and white offering.

On the other hand, it looks really sleek and more than a few people will be wanting to pick one up for themselves. As with the outfield kit, it boasts the Trefoil on the lefthand side, opposite where the retro club crest can be found, with both being white.

The body of the kit is odd insomuch as it is black, but there are different shades to make it appear as though it is slightly striped. As with the others, it is available in both long and short-sleeved varieties, plus it also shares the same AREOREADY technology.

The entire ethos of it is to match up with the outfield shirt, in the sense that it aims to bring the 1990s into the 21st century, promising an excellent combination of the retro and the modern. There is an argument to be made that the three kits and goalkeeper offerings from Adidas this season are all brilliant.

Liverpool supporters of a certain vintage will always have a soft spot for Adidas as the club’s kit manufacturer. The company first became involved with the Reds back in 1985, remaining the makers of Liverpool kits for 11 years before Reebok took over. Reebok’s time in charge lasted for ten years, then in 2006 Adidas […]
