Liverpool FC Have Played More Matches In Wales Than Any Other Country Other Than England

With the obvious exception of England, in which you’ll find Anfield, Liverpool have travelled further afield to play football for numerous different reasons.

The club’s success in continental competitions is a big part of the reason why they have travelled to various places, with the following being the list of countries played in by the end of the 2023-2024 season:

Country Number of Times Played

Germany 21
Italy 21

Scotland 9

When you conquer Europe as often as Liverpool have, which is more than twice the nearest club in Manchester United, you are bound to visit some far-flung places.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the fact that Wales is so high on the list, but the combination of playing teams such as Swansea City and Wrexham over the years and having to head to the Millennium Stadium so regularly when Wembley Stadium was being refurbished is why England’s neighbours were visited quite so often.

As with players, a fun game is to pick a country like Macedonia and see if you can work out why Liverpool ended up playing there. In that specific instance, the answer is thanks to a Europa League third qualifying round game against Rabotnicki, which the Reds won 2-0.
