Klopp eyes transfer targets to boost Liverpool silverware bid

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may well have overseen a dream start to the Reds’ Premier League campaign but that doesn’t stop the Kop coach eyeing new recruits. German genius Klopp has assembled a squad tipped by many critics to be one which can challenge Manchester City to claim the top flight crown this season. And if you bet on football, you’ll know they are well worth a flutter when it comes to bringing home an honour or two.

And while Klopp and his Anfield giants boast a star-studded squad, new additions and fresh blood are a pre-requisite if a sustained challenge to City’s superiority is to be tackled.

Arsenal midfield ace Aaron Ramsey has emerged as a potential target for Klopp after it was revealed that the Wales ace will be allowed to see his contract run down at the Emirates. He could be on his way out of North London in the transfer window in January.

Ramsey will have a queue of suitors but a switch to Anfield would be tempting given that Liverpool are very much on the up at present; and the Welshman would relish the chance to add more silverware to his impressive collection.

Another player to emerge as a candidate for a possible switch to Merseyside is Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze, who is aged 26.

A move to Liverpool would suit the midfielder — where he would join up once more with former Dortmund chief Klopp — as he tries to re-establish himself as one of European football’s hottest prospects. Now former Dortmund defender Kevin Grosskreutz says Gotze should consider a move to England in January.

Gotze, who bagged the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final, moved back to Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2016 but he has made only a couple of first-team appearances this season.

Grosskreutz says:

“I’m very sorry for Mario Gotze at the moment, because stuff is written about him – and only him – every day. Maybe it would be good for him to go abroad in the winter to find a bit more peace and bring his career back on track. Klopp knows him quite well, he would be a good fit for Liverpool.”

Yet another target, reportedly, is Flamengo star Lucas Paqueta. But the Reds face competition for the signature of the Samba star — from none other than Manchester United and Barcelona.

United are said to also want Paqueta, who is aged 21. It seems that he will move to Europe and probably in January but as of yet his destination is unclear. What may help the Reds is the uncertainty surrounding Jose Mourinho’s tenure as Old Trafford chief given the poor run of results for his outfit so far this term.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will look to gain revenge on Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge this evening following the defeat at the hands of the Blues midweek. Belgian ace Eden Hazard grabbed a wonder goal to seal a 2-1 Carabao Cup victory at Anfield following an opener from Daniel Sturridge.
