Late heartbreak for U23’s

Two late goals denied Liverpool U23’s a respectable victory over Porto’s second team.

Liverpool’s development squad, including Danny Ward in goal, had led in a snowed under Widnes thanks to a Matthew Virtue goal.

However, goals from Bruno Costa and Santiago Irala consigned Liverpool to defeat.

Neil Critchley’s hopes of progressing in the Premier International Cup are over.

New training ground edges closer

Liverpool’s new £50 million training complex has moved a step closer to becoming a reality.

The club have purchased a futher 14 acres of land off Knowsley Council to further expand their complex at Kirkby Academy.

Planning permission was granted for the development in September with building work expected to start following the close of this season.

Shelvey’s ‘fantastic’ return

Jonjo Shelvey has been talking up the club ahead of his return with Newcastle United this weekend.

Shelvey played for the club between 2010-13 making 69 appearances before leaving for Swansea City.

The midfielder has recieved a good response on his previous returns to the club and is looking forward to returning to Anfield on Saturday.

Shelvey said: “We picked up a good result when Liverpool came up earlier in the season but they are a fantastic team with a fantastic manager and fantastic supporters – everything about them is fantastic!”
