Peter Phillips and Paul Smith review Liverpool FC’s season so far

The Kop Table Interview

Peter talks to our regular writer Paul Smith about all things LFC

Give us a short recap on the Watford game please Paul?

Thought before the game Watford would come and have a good go. How wrong was I. It was the Salah show again. When he’s on fire like that you can’t get near him. It was a great all round performance from the lads some great football.

Who else impressed you in the Watford game apart from Mo Salah?

I thought Mane was excellent. Finding little pockets to play in, in between the lines and doing what we know he can do getting out wide and causing problems. Robbo again too was excellent along with Virgil love how he controls the tempo.

Give us a short review of the season so far please?

For me it’s been a very positive one. From last season we’ve gone from going behind against the lower sides to beating them convincingly. We changed the tempo of the games and showed that we can’t let ourselves get down beat when losing or letting in a goal. We’ve picked our heads up and fought and showed amazing character to drag ourselves back into games. We’ve been electric at times, it’s unreal to watch. The charisma and the bind the players have as a group is brilliant to. To carry on when Phil left was fantastic. The games we’ve lost have been against teams that have to be at there very best to beat us shows how far we’ve come under Klopp and long may that continue. The highlights for me have been Salah and getting big Virgil in. But most is being in that CL quarter finals. Klopp is due a lot of credit the man’s doing a great job.

Give each player a score from 1-10 on the performance so far this season?

1: Migs –  5 He was given enough chances to prove himself, just didn’t show it.

2: Kauris – 6 Since he’s come in he’s been excellent a good run has shown he might have what it takes.

3: TAA – 6 The lad is still learning but has all the capabilities.

4: Matip – 6 At the start looked very good in games. Lost a bit of self belief and became sloppy at times.

5: Lovern – 5 I’m being generous with that. He has shown at times he can be very good but often shown signs of weakness.

6: VVD – 8 He has been immense since he’s came in should be captain

7: Andy Robertson – 7.5 The best 8 mil spent is a ABSOLUTE snip. Has been brilliant quality week in and out.

8: Emre can – 7 Been out best midfielder and shown how much he’s grown too.

9: Chamberlain – 6.5 It’s been a bit of an up and down season for him as it was hard to settle down but he’s shown he has what it takes.

10: Hendo – 6 For me he needs to do more as captain and is too safe of a player.

11: Milner – 7 Mr reliable

12: Mane – 8 Goes through fazes but still on a bad day can give you something last for months. He’s been great.

13: Firmino – 9. This man has everything I could write a paragraph on him. Unbelievable player.

14: Salah – 10 What else can you say but he’s blown us all away. Incredible first season. The Egyptian king.

Team for Palace?

This is a big game and 3 points before Chelsea v Spurs will be great for us.

So…. Kauris; TAA, Matip, VVD, Robbo; Hendo, Can, Ox; Mane, Bobby, Salah.

Score Prediction and why please ?

This depends on what side palace put out. Zaha is there real threat. If not 100% Palace will struggle. We’re in a good place and I expect us to win and control the game. So 3-0 to the reds. YNWA
