LFC Season so far review by @_Chris_Hurst_

The Kop Table Interview

Peter talks to our regular writer Chris Hurst about Liverpool and the season so far…

Chris, how would you describe the performance against Watford in the last game?

Very one-sided wasn’t it? Was saying before the game we needed the win after Utd and an early goal was a must, thankfully we got it, was nice to get back to winning ways.

Salah was MOM v Watford but who else stood out in that game for you?

Robertson again for me mate the kid’s immense, not gonna lie, I think 99% of fans were a bit like “the hull left back! No ambition again” but there’s nothing better than being proved wrong when it comes to the Reds and he’s becoming a real fan favourite which is great to see.

How would you sum up the season so far for Liverpool?

A step in the right direction, still think a lack of a few more quality signings in the summer may have cost us some silverware domestically and also a few points early on when the boss was rotating, but overall we can’t have too many complaints, just hope we finish strong and maybe we won’t finish empty-handed come May in Kiev.

What are your performance ratings for the Liverpool players on a scale of 1-10?

Mignolet 5 Not good enough to be number 1, doesn’t seem to want to be number 2 so that’s pretty much that.

Karius 8 Think over the last few weeks he’s been brilliant, said it before it’s no shock to me he was installed as number 1 after we got VVD and Robbo up to speed, made a few excellent saves over the last few weeks, long may it continue.

TAA 7 Still young, still learning, still eager to please the fans but in big games must play with his head, not his heart.

Gomez 6 Again still young and has been played out of position, for me must sharpen up as I think it’s 4 maybe 5 times he’s been caught ball watching which has led to goals, out of position or not there’s no excuse for schoolboy errors.

Lovren 6 Hated by a hell of a lot of fans for not being good enough, his heart’s in the right place and after Spurs away I thought he played some great games but then he opens his mouth, the spotlight is on him and inevitably makes a howler and fans call for blood again.

Matip 6 Not a bad signing as he cost us nothing but IMO he’s not the answer, not a bad back up player to have in the ranks but never a week in week out starter for me.

Klavan 6 Again same with Matip, not a bad player, didn’t cost the earth but again never gonna be a first choice CB for me.

Van Dijk 9 Big Virj has been great since his arrival, only 2 mistakes if you want to be hypercritical but it’s something we’ve been after since Carra retired.

Moreno 7 Another player fans love to hate, don’t think he’s a really bad player and up until injury was playing well, but can’t see him getting back in the team anytime soon, with only 12 months left think this may be his last season with us.

Robertson 10 What can I say that already hasn’t said? Absolute class so far and again IMO he seems to get what we’re all about, already looks like he’s improving the weaker parts of his game (crossing) in last few weeks, so happy he’s proved a good few of us wrong.

Henderson 6 He’s been hit and miss all season for me, the armband will definitely be taken away next season as I think he’s becoming unreliable.

Can 6 (Puts tin hat on) again another one for me who’s hit and miss, I like to think I’m open-minded on players but I can’t see what so many others do, not saying he’s a terrible player but by no means great.

Milner 7 Been great when called upon but like a few others, another one I don’t think has too much time left here.

Gini 5 Started off well enough then went right off the boil, needs to up his game.

The Ox 7 I, like a few others, raised an eyebrow when we got him but a couple of good games has us seeing what he can actually do when given the chance.

Mane 8 People saying he hasn’t been as good as last season but I think he has, it’s just the other 2 are flying, very valuable member of the squad.

Salah 10 Ahh the Egyptian King. Can’t say anything already we don’t know, he’s been a revelation hasn’t he, let’s just hope we can keep hold of him for a very long time.

Firmino 10 One of the most underrated players in the league, he’s just as important as Salah for me, another one we must keep.

Ings 5 Haven’t seen much to judge, shows enough willingness when he’s come on, don’t think he will be anything more than a sub.

Solanke 4 A young lad who still has a lot to learn, looked great pre season but he looks like he’s trying too hard everytime he plays, time will tell what type of player we have.

What is your predicted line up for the trip to Selhurst Park?

Karius TAA Matip VVD Robbo Hendo Gini Ox Mane Salah Firmino. Even with City coming up I still think we will field a very strong team with top 4 still not guaranteed.

What is your CPFC v LFC score prediction and why please?

2-0 to the Reds, think it will be a tight game and Roy will want to get one over us I’m sure but I think we will have too much for them.

Thanks to all at FOL for the interview

Chris
