Young Stars Leaving and Matip’s Record

Transfer Deadline News

No players were bought in to strengthen Jürgen Klopp’s side on transfer deadline day. However, many players left the club, although mainly on loan.

The biggest departure, although not on deadline day, was that Daniel Sturridge finally sealed a loan deal, not abroad but back to his home city. The striker moved to West Brom for the rest of the season.

Lazar Markovic also left the club on loan, the fourth one of his Liverpool career. The Serbian winger has had spells at Hull, Fenerbache and Sporting but was shipped over to Belgium to complete his move to Anderlecht for the rest of the season.

Jon Flanagan, who hasn’t had much game time this season, has gone to Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers, while Ovie Ejaria, also went down a level to play at Sunderland.

22-year-old Lloyd Jones has left the club for Luton for an undisclosed fee.

Team News

Joel Matip broke a club record in the 3-0 victory against Huddersfield. The Cameroon international completed 161 passes overtaking Jordan Henderson for most passes made in a single Premier League game. The record also takes him to the third of all time behind Santi Cazorla and Yaya Toure respectively.

No injuries were picked up by any of the reds on Saturday so an unchanged team could occur for the game away at Tottenham on Sunday. However, Van Dijk missed the game due to a slight knock and could return.

Adam Lallana is also likely to miss out through injury still.

Youngsters

As well as Ejaria leaving, young star Harry Wilson has gone on loan to Hull after signing a new contract at Melwood. Wilson is said to be looking to impress Klopp while in the Championship.

Curtis Jones has signed his first professional deal with Liverpool, the attacker is a regular in Steven Gerrard’s U18’s and has been at the club since U9 level.

Gerrard’s side will hope to bounce back from their FA Cup exit with a game against Stoke tonight.

Liverpool FC Potential January 2026 Transfers
