Looking back at the West Ham game and looking forward to Newcastle with Chris Hurst

The Kop Table Interview
Peter talks to our regular Q&A interviewee Chris Hurst…

What were your thoughts on the performance against West Ham Chris?

Same as the Saints game mate. We had a job to do and we did it very well again, apart from their goal I thought we were excellent and it’s a joy to watch of late.

Were you surprised to see Joel Matip reinstated to the back 4 on Saturday?

Very, I know Jurgen likes his rotation but it baffles me why he keeps chopping and changing the backline but we keep getting results so I suppose I really can’t complain can I, but you know me, I will (Laughs). I just don’t rate Matip at all, for me Lovren would get the nod week in week out from now until the end of the season, maybe with Clyne returning from injury we might see Gomez make the move into the middle and that’s something that excites me. I think him and Van Dijk would be great together.

What are your thoughts on Firmino’s no-look finishes?

It’s all fun and games when they go in and I know it must wind the opposition up, as long as he does it when we’re 3 or 4 up then sound, long may it continue!

Who was your standout performer at the weekend at Anfield?

A lot of people will go with Robertson and probably rightly so because he was brilliant, but for me, my stand out player was TAA, he was up and down that line all afternoon, put some great balls in and made some even better tackles.

Would you give James Milner a new contract when this one is up?

I’d offer him another 12 months, with Can seemingly going he could become handy for us while Naby settles in, it’s never hurt any club having a bit of experience around the place either.

Would you change much for the Newcastle game?

Can’t see Can starting, if he gets booked he misses the United game I think, I could be wrong though, also can see Lovren returning to the back line, other than that I don’t think he needs to change much from Saturday.

What is your score prediction in the Newcastle game and why please?

Depending what Newcastle turn up with really, they dug in deep against Bournemouth and Shelvey was class but then you saw the side we all know he has against Bournemouth at the weekend. If he starts he will be right up for it and will be flying into tackles, but even so, we have too much for them. 4-0 I’ll go for.
Big thanks to all at FOL for the interview, Chris.
