Van Dijk Prepares For Southampton, Can Off To Italy? U19s Drawn Against Manchester United

Team News:

Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Southampton, Liverpool can expect to have Adam Lallana back in the squad despite his outburst against Tottenham’s U23.

Alberto Moreno is also expected to be a part of the squad although Klopp did want the Spanish full-back to play on Monday for the U23’s. Moreno missed out on the game due to a slight injury.

Ragnar Klavan has also trained having missed the last few games with a minor injury.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to start for Liverpool in the absence of Joe Gomez. Gomez missed last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham with a knee injury and he yet to resume training.

Ex-Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk is expected to start as he prepares for a hostile crowd in St Mary’s. This will be the Dutch defender’s first encounter against Southampton since he made his £75m in January.

Transfer News:

Liverpool’s hopes of keeping German midfielder Emre Can beyond this season are slowly fading away with Italian side Juventus favourites to sign him.

During Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham, Juventus sent out a delegation to watch the midfielder play. The Italian side have reportedly offered a huge contract to the midfielder in hope they can lure him to Serie A. Can will be available on a free transfer in July and Liverpool are yet to concede defeat in hopes of signing him to a new contract.

Liverpool’s interest in Thomas Lemar has reportedly died down with the club no longer interested in the 22-year-old. The French winger was the subject of interest over the summer transfer window the reds even having a bid rejected for the Frenchman.

With Lemar now out of the picture, it remains to be seen who Klopp will target in the summer transfer window.

Youth:

Liverpool U19s will have a blockbuster encounter with rivals Manchester United as both sides have been drawn to face each other in the UEFA Youth League last 16. The tie will be played at home and should Steven Gerrard’s side win, they’ll face Inter Milan or Manchester City in the last eight.
