Can Signing New Deal? Karius Set To Be Number 1, Gerrard Returns To Anfield

Transfer News:

Liverpool’s Emre Can is reportedly in talks with the club over a new contract. There has been speculation mounting that the German is close to signing for Juventus this summer. Can’s current deal expires in June and is free to talk to clubs regarding a potential move.

Both Liverpool and Emre Can’s representatives have held out on a contract extension with the German wanting a release clause put in the new deal. However, with talks still ongoing between the two, it remains to be seen whether the club will give into his demands and insert a release clause.

The Reds are also interested in bringing in a new goalkeeper with Roma’s Alisson as their main target.

Liverpool have been linked with the Brazilian this transfer window as a replacement for Mignolet. However, any deal for a goalkeeper will most likely be completed in the summer transfer window.

Team News:

Loris Karius looks to be the number one goalkeeper for the remainder of the season as Jurgen Klopp has reportedly lost faith in Simon Mingolet. Karius started in Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Manchester City and is set to start for the foreseeable future. With Mignolet dropped, his future with the club remains uncertain.

Youngster Rhian Brewster will undergo further assessments later this week to learn the extent of his high ankle sprain. Brewster was carried off in a stretcher during Liverpool’s U23 match against Manchester City on Friday.  The club also confirmed Brewster did not break a bone although it is suspected he may have suffered ligament damage.

Youngsters:

Steven Gerrard’s U18’s will play their fixture against Arsenal at Anfield this Saturday in the FA Youth Cup.

Gerrard’s side set up a fourth-round tie against Arsenal after defeating Hartlepool United 5-1 in the previous round.

The game on Saturday will also be Gerrard’s first game in charge at Anfield since being appointed manager of the U18’s.

Liverpool FC Potential January 2026 Transfers

Liverpool have endured a tough time of it in the Premier League and Champions League so far this season, also crashing out of the League Cup. It is, in my opinion, entirely understandable why that might be the case, given the fact that this is a club that has been grieving the loss of a […]
